Governor Rick Scott Supporting World Prematurity Day

Today The Gift of Life Received a Letter from Governor Rick Scott in support of World Prematurity Day:

November 17, 2014
Dear Friends:

As advocates and organizations around the globe observe World Prematurity
Awareness Day, I commend you for your continued efforts to help Floridians increase awareness about premature birth, how it can be prevented, and how to support Florida families nurturing premature babies.
Thank you for promoting overall health and highlighting the strides taken to
support children born prematurely. Because a variety of communication efforts can be very effective in increasing awareness, your work is greatly appreciated.
In many ways, the well-being of the Sunshine State is connected to the success of
efforts like yours. As you work to ensure the health and well-being of infants, know that I am focused on three goals for our state: making Florida the No. 1 place for businesses to succeed, keeping the cost of living low for families and businesses, and making sure our schools prepare students for the career or college of their dreams. As a result, Florida is the best place for families to enjoy health and well-being and pursue their version of the American dream.

Thank you again for your service to your community and Florida families.
Sincerely,

Rick Scott
Governor

                                                                PRESS RELEASE

Mark your calendars, add it to your smart phone’ calendar, and help us bring awareness and support this month to celebrate World Prematurity Day, celebrated throughout the world this November 17th, 2014!  The City of Orlando, has taken steps to bring forth a signal to the public by lighting one of their towers, the tower of light sculpture and water fountain at City Hall with the designated color of purple.  Lights will turn on at approximately 545pm and continue until dawn of the following day.

The color purple signifies supporters’ continued mission to raise awareness for the needs of premature infants and to bring support to the needs of the families of these precious little lives. The future impact cannot be understated,  having been reminded of the wonderful gift these little ones contribute to society as a whole.  There are so many wonderful names of people and organizations locally in Florida, in the news and in life that have made a huge impact in our world, having been premature when they were born.  To continue this support and celebration organizations like the Gift of Life Corporation and many other local governmental officials and civic groups have raised the banner to remind the great people of Central Florida to give in whatever way they can.  Rosie Moore, local Central Florida resident gave birth to Kaleb, born a micro-preemie at only 1 lb. 10 oz, decided to tell her story by writing the book, A Story of Faith, back in 2010, as a way to express her gratitude at the miraculous birth of her son, Kaleb and to describe her 5 month experience with her son at Florida Hospital Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit.  From the writing of the book, to the founding of the Gift of Life Corporation, a non-profit organization, becoming a voice for those who cannot speak, both started with the purpose to raise awareness and understanding of the struggles parent’s of preemies face, especially through the delicate medical hurdles some don’t survive.  Premature children and their families are blessed to receive the help of dedicated medical staff and doctors who work tirelessly to help these children survive against staggering odds.  For more information about volunteering opportunities, or to make a charitable donation please contact the Gift of Life Corporation.   Help us to achieve our goal to light up the city of Orlando with Purple to remind us of the unfathomable value of these little ones.
